Stephen Miller Engages in Lengthy Twitter Clash with Podcaster Over Trump’s Address

Stephen Miller, a key adviser on homeland security, found himself embroiled in an extensive online dispute with Jon Favreau, a liberal podcaster and former official in the Obama administration, over the Democrats' reaction to Donald Trump’s recent State of the Union address.

The confrontation ignited Tuesday evening when Miller accused Democrats of betraying the nation by refusing to stand during pivotal moments of Trump’s speech. “Democrats declared to the world their searing disdain for, and profound disloyalty to, the actual citizens of the United States,” he asserted. “They were repeatedly entreated to stand. Over and over. They refused. It was a moment that chills to the bone and which will live for a thousand years.”

This statement referenced several instances where Trump urged Democrats to rise, particularly when he emphasized that “The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens.” Throughout the address, Democrats expressed their dissent through boycotts, signs, and vocal protests, including accusations against Trump’s immigration policies for contributing to the deaths of Americans like Alex Pretti and Renee Good in Minneapolis.

Favreau responded with sarcasm, remarking, “It's genuinely so funny how hard they're trying to make this a thing.” The exchange escalated from there.

“Democrats leapt, clapped, hollered and cheered for raising taxes but their legs, hands and voices froze in icy contempt as they glowered at the parents of slain children,” Miller retorted. “Democrats vowed allegiance to invaders over citizens, and this top Dem finds their deadly betrayal hilarious.”

Favreau, known for his sharp critiques of the administration, shot back, “No, I find you hilarious. And I genuinely hope the boss lets you drive the midterm strategy and brings more of your Victorian asylum patient energy into his speeches.”

The argument took a more personal turn as Miller labeled Favreau a “textbook sociopath,” accusing him of lacking empathy for American families affected by violence from undocumented immigrants. “He has been given multiple opportunities to show empathy for American moms whose children were raped and murdered by the illegals whose entry he cheered. He refuses. He finds the topic ‘hilarious.’ Jon, one more time: do you grieve for these families?”

Favreau replied with a hint of sarcasm, “I mean I certainly have sympathy for yours.”

By Wednesday evening, Favreau attempted to shift the focus towards immigration detention issues, highlighting the plight of thousands, including children, held without criminal convictions. “We can keep playing dumb Twitter games, but you're a government official with the power to free countless American families and children who are suffering in the squalid detention centers where you've illegally jailed them,” he challenged Miller. “Why don't you?”

Miller was not alone in his criticism of Democrats’ behavior during Trump’s address. The president himself directed multiple jabs at Democrats for their lack of support during his speech. "These people are crazy. I'm telling you, they're crazy," Trump stated. "We're lucky we have a country with people like this. Democrats are destroying our country."

Tragically, at least 32 individuals died in immigration detention last year, marking it as the deadliest non-Covid year in these facilities in U.S. history.
