Sydney Sweeney faces relentless criticism, and a soap star claims it’s all because she’s “blessed with boobs and blonde hair.”
Joshua Pascoe, known for his role as Ben Mitchell on EastEnders from 2010 to 2012, has come to Sweeney's defense. He’s hooked on the latest season of Euphoria and believes the backlash against the actress is completely unwarranted.
In an exclusive interview, Joshua revealed that Sweeney’s storyline is a major draw for him. “I’m watching Euphoria, that’s really good. Sydney Sweeney has been getting pelters and, I must admit, not because of the way she looks, but I’m only really watching it for her storyline,” he stated. He added that her plot is particularly engaging due to its adult themes.
Despite the 28-year-old actress facing online criticism for the show’s explicit content, Joshua insists she’s simply fulfilling her role. “I can understand why people are obsessed,” he said. “I think she’s great in it. I think she plays her character so well. This season has been her best season.”
While he acknowledges that the current series may not reach the heights of earlier seasons, he still regards Sweeney as a standout performer. “As a whole it’s probably not as good as the first two, but…” he noted.
Joshua has a theory about the harsh treatment Sweeney receives. “I think I know why she gets slack. It’s because she’s a young girl and she’s been blessed with blonde hair and boobs. I think people like throwing shade at people,” he explained.
After leaving EastEnders in 2012, Joshua transitioned to construction and launched a successful online subscription platform. He believes talent should outweigh physical appearance in the industry.
“I don’t know what she’s like as a person, I’ve never met her, but at the end of the day she can act and she’s doing her job well,” he said. “That’s the thing – they probably slate her, but they’ll still watch the film she’s in.”
He also suggested that the provocative nature of Euphoria's storylines might fuel the criticism aimed at Sweeney. “The only thing I would say is this season of Euphoria is really raunchy – like, really raunchy as hell. Maybe people like throwing shade at her because of that, but not being funny, if you listen to Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, she’s nothing compared to those.”
Joshua continues to support Sydney during interviews.
