Teacher, 35, Busted for Repeatedly Having Sex with Two Teens

Jun 06 2026

Amber Swain, 35, faces serious allegations of sexual misconduct after being arrested for having sexual contact with two teenage boys on multiple occasions.

Swain, a teacher at Pend Oreille River School in Newport, Washington, was taken into custody on June 2 as part of an investigation by the Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office. She is charged with first- and second-degree incest.

Known for her community involvement and support of foster care, Swain held dual roles as a teacher and program director at the alternative high school. Her public persona as a champion for vulnerable children sharply contrasts with the allegations against her.

The investigation began in late May 2026 when Washington State’s Department of Children, Youth, and Families raised concerns about potential sexual abuse. This prompted local law enforcement to take action.

Detectives uncovered explicit text messages between Swain and the teenagers, leading to forensic interviews with both boys. Following these interviews and a formal questioning of Swain, detectives established probable cause for her arrest.

Swain appeared in Pend Oreille County District Court on June 3 before Judge Robin McCroskey. The school district placed her on immediate administrative leave, emphasizing their serious approach to the situation in a formal statement.

According to police affidavits, the two teenagers provided differing accounts of the alleged incidents. One boy claimed he had sex with Swain “plenty of times,” starting before his 18th birthday and continuing until just days before his interview. The other boy reported inappropriate touching while sharing a bed in May 2026, stating he had to force her to stop.

Court records indicate that Swain initially denied any sexual contact when questioned. However, after being confronted with digital evidence, she altered her story, claiming the sexual encounter with the first teenager occurred only after he turned 18.

When detectives pointed out inconsistencies in her timeline, she reportedly admitted, “I could have my timeline messed up.” During her first court appearance, the prosecutor requested a $500,000 cash-only bond due to public safety concerns and allegations that Swain attempted to contact one of the victims from jail.

Her public defender argued for her release based on her lack of prior criminal history. The judge ultimately set bail at $20,000.

Swain was released under strict conditions prohibiting contact with the alleged victims and anyone under 18. She faces charges of first-degree incest, second-degree incest, and first-degree sexual misconduct with a minor, which could lead to a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison.

A formal arraignment is scheduled in Superior Court.
