Trump Blasts Medical Examiner’s Findings on Lindsey Graham’s Shocking Death

Jul 14 2026

President Donald Trump unleashed a storm of contradictions regarding the cause of South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham's death, directly challenging the Washington, D.C. Medical Examiner’s preliminary findings. He claimed the aortic dissection that struck Graham was “not related to blocked arteries,” despite earlier reports suggesting otherwise.

In a press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, Trump responded to inquiries about FBI agents spotted at Graham’s residence following his sudden demise. He suggested Graham’s death mirrored a “problem” that had afflicted the senator’s father years ago.

Initially, Trump acknowledged reports of clogged arteries, stating, “He had a problem with that ... I wish he took better care of himself.” However, he quickly pivoted, asserting that Graham’s death stemmed from “a totally different thing” unrelated to any blockage.

“I've had the doctors from the White House come in and explain what happened, and this is something that is very almost undetectable,” Trump elaborated. “If it happens, there's not much you can do about it. Sounds unfortunate, but there's not much you can do about it.”

Graham, a congressional fixture since 1994, passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning, shortly after returning from his tenth trip to Ukraine. His office released a statement attributing his death to a “brief and sudden illness.” However, the medical examiner's preliminary report linked his demise to an aortic dissection—a severe tearing of the aorta's inner wall—attributed to hardening arteries from high cholesterol.

An aortic dissection is a critical medical emergency that can lead to rapid death without warning, particularly outside hospital confines. The American Heart Association defines it as a tear in the aorta’s inner wall that allows blood to seep into other layers of this major blood vessel. Risk factors include high blood pressure, high cholesterol leading to stiffened arteries—known as atherosclerosis—smoking, and genetic predisposition.

The sudden nature of Graham’s death has ignited a wave of conspiracy theories among some of Trump’s supporters, who speculate about potential foul play. FBI Director Kash Patel fueled these theories by posting on X that the FBI was investigating the senator’s death.

Trump dismissed the notion of foul play, suggesting there was no substantial investigation needed. He remarked, “I think the FBI is wasting their time if they're doing that,” while acknowledging the swirl of conspiracy theories surrounding Graham's passing.

Graham's office confirmed his death was due to an aortic dissection linked to high cholesterol.
