Donald Trump, the former president, has been accused of dozing off during a meeting with Turkey's leader, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, at a NATO summit, igniting fierce criticism.
As the meeting unfolded, Trump made a series of false claims, including an outrageous assertion that Greenland is “surrounded by China’s ships and Russian ships,” while pushing for U.S. control over the Danish territory.
On the following day, Trump labeled Greenland a “big problem” and expressed dissatisfaction with NATO regarding its handling of the territory during a conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
While seated with Erdogan, Trump reiterated his debunked assertion of having “settled eight wars” and referred to the 2020 election, which was won by Biden, as “a rigged election.”
As Erdogan began to speak, Trump struggled to maintain his composure. Viral footage captured him with his head drooping and eyes closing, prompting ridicule online.
A user who shared the video questioned, “What happened to not being an embarrassment...,” as Trump appeared to nod off while listening to an interpreter.
At approximately 45 seconds into the clip, Trump jolted upright, fighting to keep his eyes open.
The video amassed over 900,000 views, leading to a wave of mockery. One commenter remarked, “Where’s his handlers? The idiot can’t be left alone,” while another suggested someone should wake him up.
Another observer noted Trump’s slumped posture, stating, “Whether he’s sleeping or not, he can’t sit up straight and I’m sure is starting to doze. It’s disgraceful. And embarrassing to our once great country.”
Critics drew parallels between Trump and Biden, who has been labeled “sleepy Biden” by Trump in the lead-up to the 2024 election. One user demanded, “25th him now. Imagine the outrage if this was Biden?”
Another added that MAGA supporters would have called for Biden’s impeachment had he been caught sleeping in meetings.
A third commenter stated, “It was never sleepy Joe; it was always sleepy Don.” Trump has faced accusations of dozing off during several significant events in recent months, including his own July 4 fireworks show and multiple Oval Office press conferences.
Trump appeared to be struggling to keep his eyes open.
