Trump Caught Snoozing: Leavitt's Praise Turns into Public Mockery
Donald Trump, the former president, appeared to doze off during a meeting with Turkey's leader, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, while Karoline Leavitt attempted to bolster his image.
Leavitt, the White House press secretary, posted on X about Trump's attendance at a NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey. The two-day event saw Trump lash out at Iran's leadership, labeling them "scum," and express frustration over NATO allies not supporting his war efforts in Iran. He also reiterated his controversial demands regarding Greenland.
During Trump's tirade about Greenland, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte laughed, but the real spectacle came when Trump seemed to nod off mid-conversation with Erdogan.
Leavitt ignored the embarrassing moment and tweeted, "President Donald Trump on Wednesday confirmed that he had pressed members of NATO to commit to the pledged 5% defense spending targets and had pressured the holdout nations to make plans to conform."
Critics quickly flooded her post with ridicule. One user quipped, "Was this before or after or during his nap?" Another chimed in, "He looked like an idiot and fell asleep again. Islam republic of Japan? Introducing Zelenskyy as Putin. What do you all think we don’t see this s--t????"
Another critic bluntly stated, "Erm no, he f---ing embarrassed himself and the USA on the world stage of more time," while another labeled Trump "an absolute embarrassment to America."
Trump's apparent nap occurred on July 7 during a meeting with Erdogan. Throughout the session, he made several inaccurate claims, including that Greenland is "surrounded by China's ships and Russian ships," while reiterating his demands for the U.S. to take control of the Danish territory. He expressed dissatisfaction with NATO over their handling of Greenland.
In addition to his Greenland assertions, Trump falsely claimed he has "settled eight wars" and described the 2020 election as "rigged," despite Joe Biden's legitimate victory.
As Erdogan spoke, video footage showed Trump struggling to stay awake. His head dipped and eyes closed as he listened to an interpreter.
In the viral clip, Trump's head angled to the right and bobbed gently. One user commented, "What happened to not being an embarrassment..." Another asked, "Where's his handlers? The idiot can't be left alone."
A third observer suggested, "Someone ought to shake him, wake him up and let him know everyone saw him nodded out," while another user expressed frustration, stating, "Whether he's sleeping or not, he can't sit up straight and I'm sure is starting to doze. It's disgraceful. And embarrassing to our once great country. At least give the man some speed."
