During a speech on Friday, Donald Trump argued that all presidential and vice-presidential candidates should undergo cognitive testing akin to the assessments he claims to have excelled in.
Irony, it seems, has taken a permanent vacation.
Addressing seniors at The Villages, a well-known retirement community in Florida, Trump emphasized the necessity of evaluating the mental sharpness of future leaders.
His rationale, however, appeared to invite a wave of online ridicule.
“You get a guy who gets in there, he’s got a good line of crap. He gets in, and all of a sudden, you’re stuck with a man who’s an idiot,” Trump remarked. “This is not good.”
Earlier in his address, he elaborated on his own experiences with cognitive tests designed to detect signs of dysfunction or dementia, suggesting that not everyone could perform as well as he did.
“I took three of them, aced all of them, by the way,” he boasted, asserting that he was “the only president to take a cognitive test,” implying that former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden would struggle to pass.
He described the first question as straightforward: “It’s a lion, a giraffe, a bear and a shark. They say, ‘Which one is the bear?’” He then noted that the final ten questions on the 30-question exam were significantly more difficult.
“A lot of you wouldn’t have been able to answer those 10 questions,” he told the audience, leaving many to ponder the implications of his statements.
Social media users quickly seized upon Trump’s “idiot” comment, unleashing a torrent of sarcastic responses.
