Trump's Approval Plummets Among Key MAGA Supporters
Recent polling data indicates a troubling trend for President Donald Trump as his approval ratings among white voters without a college degree have taken a nosedive. This demographic, once a cornerstone of his support, is now showing signs of discontent.
In February 2025, Trump enjoyed a robust +36 net approval rating within this group, with 68 percent expressing approval and only 32 percent disapproving. However, by September 2025, that figure had diminished to +26, and further declined to +10 by February 2026. The latest figures from April 8-10 reveal a stark reversal: Trump now stands at -4, with 48 percent approving and 52 percent disapproving.
This shift represents a significant loss of support from a demographic that was pivotal in his 2024 election victory, where 66 percent of white voters without college degrees cast their ballots for him. The decline of over 40 points in net approval since early 2025 signals growing dissatisfaction among these voters.
Trump's challenges extend beyond this group. Recent surveys indicate that Black, Latino, and young male voters—who were essential to his coalition in the last election—are also distancing themselves from the former president.
Analysis from a political commentator highlighted that Trump's approval among working-class voters has plummeted by 26 points since November 2024. “The working-class voters are abandoning Donald Trump,” he noted, emphasizing that those who previously supported him are now reconsidering their allegiance.
This trend poses a significant hurdle for Trump as he aims to retain support from his core base ahead of the 2026 midterms. His approval ratings have already suffered due to widespread discontent regarding his administration's handling of the ongoing war in Iran and economic concerns.
A recent poll revealed that only 31 percent approve of Trump's economic management, marking the lowest approval rating during his presidency. Additionally, the CBS/YouGov survey found that a majority of Americans are uneasy about the conflict in Iran, with rising oil and gas prices contributing to their anxiety.
According to the poll, 68 percent of respondents expressed worry about the situation, while 57 percent reported feeling stressed and 54 percent felt angered. Only 32 percent felt safe or confident regarding the U.S. role in the conflict, and just 29 percent felt proud of the nation's actions.
Overall, the poll indicated that 64 percent of Americans disapprove of Trump's approach to the Iran situation. Furthermore, 51 percent reported that the escalating gas prices linked to the war have created financial strain, and 63 percent believe the economy under Trump's second term is performing poorly.
