Concerns about Donald Trump’s mental fitness resurface as his niece asserts that his cognitive decline is “obvious,” likening him to his father, who succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease.

Mary Trump, a psychologist and author, stated on The Daily Beast podcast that the president exhibits “serious and obvious cognitive decline” following multiple annual cognitive assessments.

She pointed out his “inability to control the narrative” and noted that he seems aware of losing grip on various aspects of his life, including his physical body. Mary highlighted Trump’s “longstanding, undiagnosed, untreated psychiatric disorders” that have persisted since he first entered the Oval Office.

These mental health issues hinder his ability to regain stability, and she expresses skepticism about his chances of recovery. Mary also remarked on the increasing difficulty for his “sycophantic enablers” to maintain the facade that everything is normal.

She elaborated on the alarming similarities between Trump and his father, who suffered from severe Alzheimer’s. Mary noted that her grandfather’s Alzheimer’s began to worsen around the same age as Donald is now, although he was physically healthier and lacked the emotional complexities that could affect him.

Mary described Trump’s “deer in the headlights” expression as indicative of confusion, suggesting he often doesn’t grasp what’s happening around him, which she finds “very alarming.”

Mary Trump is Donald Trump’s biological niece. Her grandfather, Fred Trump—Donald’s father—developed Alzheimer’s disease in his 80s and passed away at age 93 in 1998.

In her book, Mary alleges that her grandfather began deteriorating shortly before a hip replacement in 1991, exhibiting clear sundowning symptoms during that hospitalization.

In July 2025, the White House disclosed that President Trump suffers from chronic venous insufficiency. No further official updates regarding his health have been released since then.
