Trump's NBA Finals Attendance Sparks Outrage and Chaos
President Donald Trump is set to become the first sitting U.S. president to attend an NBA Finals game, and it’s a nightmare for everyone else involved. The chaos begins Monday night at Madison Square Garden.
Game 3 attendees face a two-hour early arrival mandate due to heightened security protocols. Bags and purses? Forget about it. The inconvenience is palpable for the 20,000 fans who just want to enjoy the game.
Fans hoping to catch the action at the canceled watch party outside the arena are left in the lurch. The New York Police Department confirmed that the event is off due to Trump’s presence, stating, “There will be no watch parties outside of Madison Square Garden for Game 3 only.”
The NYPD coordinated with the Secret Service for this disruption, but they claim watch parties will resume for Game 4. For now, it’s a hard pass for those looking to gather outside.
Even conservative commentator Ann Coulter slammed Trump’s decision. She called it “the absolute worst” of his many selfish acts, highlighting the massive inconvenience for attendees and taxpayers alike.
Coulter pointed out that thousands of extra law enforcement officers will be deployed, all funded by taxpayers, while traffic spirals into chaos. “All so he can sit in the Garden rather than watch the game on TV,” she fumed.
For those unable to shell out over $8,000 for tickets, a five-block by two-block area around the Garden will be completely off-limits. Anyone trying to navigate within this zone, bounded by West 30th Street to West 35th Street and 6th Avenue to 8th Avenue, will need to find alternate routes.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch described the situation as a “lockdown,” stating, “No one will be allowed inside the secured area unless they have a ticket to the game, a train ticket, they are going to a business inside the area, they have credentials, or they have some other authorized reason to be there.”
NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, also attending the game, mentioned plans for an area designated for anti-Trump protesters. However, don’t expect that space to be anywhere near Madison Square Garden.
The mayor acknowledged that Secret Service protocols require extensive preparations beyond normal measures. Trump has made a habit of showing up at high-profile sports events during his second term.
He was spotted at the 2025 Super Bowl, Daytona 500, Ryder Cup, and even a Washington Commanders NFL game last November. At all these events, he faced loud boos from the crowd.
