Broadway Star and ‘Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ Actor Josh Grisetti Takes His Life at 44

Josh Grisetti, a prominent figure in the theater world, died by suicide, shocking friends and fans alike. The news broke from Rob McClure, a fellow Broadway star, who shared the heartbreaking announcement on social media.

McClure expressed his devastation, stating, “It is with a shattered heart that I share that the brilliant Josh Grisetti took his own life on Friday.” He accompanied his message with a series of images capturing their friendship.

In a raw outpouring of grief, McClure reflected on their years together, recalling moments spent on stage and Grisetti’s influence on students at Cal State Fullerton. He described being honored to serve as Grisetti's Best Man at his wedding.

McClure and his wife, Maggie Lakis, conveyed their profound sorrow, labeling the loss as “cataclysmic.” They emphasized that communities worldwide will feel the void left by Grisetti’s passing.

As tributes poured in, fellow stars expressed their condolences in the comments of McClure’s post. Ariana DeBose sent her sympathies, while Rachel Zegler offered a simple yet heartfelt “❤️.”

Donna Murphy, known for her role in “Tangled,” shared her sorrow, calling Grisetti a “beautiful, gifted human & artist,” and extended her thoughts and prayers to his family.

Amy Sherman-Palladino, creator of “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” praised Grisetti as “the best actor, person... the best,” highlighting the deep loss felt by the entire cast and crew.

Grisetti was born in Washington, DC, in December 1981. He graduated from The Boston Conservatory in 2004 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theatre.

His Broadway career took off in 2015 with his debut as Marty Kaufman in “It Shoulda Been You,” earning him a Theatre World Award and nominations for Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards.

The following year, he starred as Nigel Bottom in the hit musical “Something Rotten!,” further solidifying his place on Broadway.

Grisetti also appeared in the 2007 ABC sitcom “The Knights of Prosperity” and recently landed a recurring role as Ralph Emerson in the final season of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.”

He is survived by his wife, Mackenzie Grisetti, a real estate agent whom he married in February 2020.
