Trump's Turkey Summit Sparks Outrage: Accusations of Betrayal and Personal Gain

Jul 08 2026

Donald Trump’s arrival in Turkey for a summit has ignited a firestorm of accusations from CNN viewers, who claim he’s willing to sell out the U.S. for personal gain.

On July 7, CNN reported Trump’s landing in Turkey ahead of a NATO summit in Ankara, where member nations are set to tackle contentious issues related to the Iran conflict.

Criticism erupted almost immediately after viewers learned of Trump’s reported $2.2 billion income during his first year of a second term. Many labeled him a “fraud” and expressed deep concerns about the implications of his meeting, dubbing him “the biggest threat to WW3.”

Trump is expected to deliver a crucial message to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan regarding the potential sale of F-35 fighter jets, a move that has raised eyebrows among observers. Reports indicate that Trump’s focus on aircraft sales could exacerbate tensions with established allies.

Viewers voiced skepticism about Trump’s intentions, questioning whether his motivations were genuine or merely self-serving. One user remarked, “Trump indeed has no problem selling his country for personal gain,” while another warned, “Meaning at some point, Turkey will use those same jets against the USA.”

Concerns mounted over the potential F-35 deal, especially given Turkey’s previous expulsion from the F-35 program due to its S-400 deal with Russia. Observers fear that this could lead to widespread chaos.

“Will move considering how rocky the whole S-400 situation was, wonder if they’ll actually pull it off this time. Feels like it’s gonna be a chaotic summit tbh,” one viewer commented.

Another noted, “Turkey got booted from the F-35 program in 2019 over the S-400 deal with Russia. Reversing that now is bold ngl.”

Despite a congressional ban on selling jets to Turkey, Trump indicated after his meeting that he remains open to pursuing a deal. He claimed that Turkey’s president has shown more loyalty than other nations previously supplied with aircraft.

“We have a better relationship with Turkey, and Turkey has been in many ways much more loyal than other countries that we think would be loyal,” he stated. “It’s a great plane, it’s the best, currently the best plane by far, and certainly something we will consider.”
