Trump Stands at Dover as Four Fallen Soldiers Return from Middle East Carnage

Jul 22 2026

Four U.S. service members, victims of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, returned home in a solemn ceremony at Dover Air Force Base, attended by President Donald Trump.

This marks the third transfer Trump has participated in since the war in Iran ignited in February, a conflict that has already claimed 18 American lives.

Trump stood with White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, while First Lady Melania Trump and Vice President JD Vance were notably absent from the event.

During a previous transfer, Trump faced criticism for donning a MAGA hat, a choice he avoided this time around.

On his way to Dover, Trump described the event as "one of the hardest things to do as a president," emphasizing the emotional weight of the occasion.

He expressed his condolences to the grieving families, stating, "we love you, we love your child," and added, "There’s no games, there’s no nothing — that’s their child. And all you can do is throw out your heart."

The fallen soldiers included two U.S. Army members who perished in Iranian missile and drone strikes in Jordan. A third soldier, initially reported missing after these attacks, is now presumed dead. Additionally, a soldier killed in Iraq due to an Iranian drone detonation was also honored during the transfer.

The Defense Department identified the deceased soldiers from Jordan as Tyler James Feehan, 25, from Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Isabella Gonzales, 19, from Carrollton, Texas. Angel S. Rampersad, 28, from Ozone Park, New York, was the soldier who went missing after the Jordan attacks and is now believed to be deceased.

Michael Emmanuel Swinton, 30, from Spring Lake, North Carolina, was the soldier killed in Iraq.

Reflecting on these tragic losses, Trump stated on Sunday, "We feel very badly, but you know, those great people, those great patriots were out there fighting so that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon." He indicated that U.S. actions against Iran were taken "in honor" of the fallen troops.

As retaliatory strikes continue amid a faltering interim agreement to end hostilities, Trump warned on Monday that if Iran kills another American service member, "they will pay for that killing many times over!"
