Trump Stumbles Down Stairs After Getting Booed at World Cup Final
Donald Trump struggled to navigate the stairs of his new Air Force One after being booed at the FIFA World Cup Final, showcasing a concerning pattern of instability.
The president, who is 80 years old, landed at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland after an embarrassing scene in New Jersey, where he awkwardly intruded on Spain's trophy celebration. As he exited the Qatari-gifted aircraft, he exhibited noticeable difficulty descending the staircase.
Footage revealed Trump stepping out of the plane, swaying to his left while tapping his right leg. He then grasped the handrail with his left hand, cautiously making his way down the steps.
After three steps, he tapped the handrail twice before gripping it again. Following another two steps, he repeated the handrail tap before returning to a firm hold.
About a third of the way down, Trump slowed and paused slightly to grab a higher handrail. This incident follows multiple previous occurrences where he appeared unsteady on the Air Force One stairs this month.
In June, he displayed similar unsteadiness upon arriving in France for a G7 summit. Trump has openly acknowledged his cautious approach to descending the Air Force One stairs due to fears of falling.
“I’m very careful when I walk, by the way, because if I ever fall... the fake news ... they’re going to have... that headline will go on for years,” he stated in May.
He elaborated, “You know, sometimes like I walk out of the plane... I’m not looking to set any records. You go nice and easy.”
His recent use of the new Air Force One comes amid security concerns regarding the $400 million jet gifted by Qatar.
Upon disembarking after the World Cup final, Trump faced questions about the aircraft's missile defense capabilities.
“It has a lot of capability but, as I understand it, in about a month or so they’re going to send it to have it be maxed out,” he informed reporters.
“They’re going to be sending it, and they’ll have it be maxed out. It’ll take about a month,” he added.
