Trump Weighs In on Woods' Car Incident: 'He’s Facing Challenges'

Mar 28 2026

President Trump addressed the media regarding Tiger Woods, stating the golfer is “facing challenges” after a serious rollover car accident in Florida on Friday afternoon.

Woods, 50, crashed his Land Rover on Jupiter Island shortly after 2 PM local time, colliding with a machinery truck while driving at high speed. Following the incident, he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Both Woods and the other driver escaped without injuries, with Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek noting, “this could have been a lot worse.”

This incident marks the third significant crash for Woods and the second DUI arrest. Authorities suspect he was “impaired” by medication, as he passed a breathalyzer test but declined to provide a urine sample.

In 2017, Woods faced a similar situation when he was arrested for DUI in Florida, leading him to seek treatment for prescription medication issues.

Expressing his concern, Trump said he “feels so badly” for Woods, who he described as a close friend. “He’s facing challenges,” Trump remarked before the sheriff's office confirmed Woods’ arrest. “There was an accident and that’s all I know. He’s an amazing person, an amazing man. Some difficulty, I don’t want to talk about it.”

Under state law, Woods will remain in county jail for a minimum of eight hours before being eligible for release on bond.

Woods previously endured a high-profile rollover crash in California in 2021 that resulted in severe injuries. At that time, authorities reported he was driving at least twice the 45 mph speed limit when his SUV struck a tree, causing it to flip and land on its side.

Reflecting on his survival at the 2021 Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, Woods stated: "I'm lucky to be alive and also have a limb,” revealing that there was uncertainty about whether part of his right leg would need amputation.

After undergoing his seventh back surgery last September, Woods has been attempting to return to golf, but his participation in next month’s Masters remains uncertain.

He candidly admitted he got his “a*** kicked” after competing in a virtual league with his team Jupiter Links, which lost in the TGL Finals.

His last official tournament appearance was at The Open in 2024, followed by a ruptured Achilles tendon in March 2025 that sidelined him for the entire season prior to back surgery.

Despite having lifetime eligibility to compete at The Masters as a five-time champion, Trump previously suggested that Woods may not participate. “I love Tiger, but he won’t be there,” Trump stated during an appearance on “The Five.” “He’ll be there, but he won’t be playing in it.”
