U.S. Military Successfully Extracts Missing Crew Member from Downed Fighter Jet in Iran, Trump Declares

A U.S. crew member, previously unaccounted for after an F-15E fighter jet was downed in Iran, was successfully rescued by American forces early Sunday morning, as confirmed by multiple U.S. officials. The pilot of the aircraft had been saved two days earlier.

"WE GOT HIM!" President Trump announced via a post on Truth Social. "My fellow Americans, the United States Military executed one of the most audacious Search and Rescue Operations in our history for one of our incredible Crew Member Officers, a highly respected Colonel, who is now SAFE and SOUND!"

According to the president, the rescued officer had "sustained injuries, but he will be just fine." Details surrounding the operation revealed that "at my direction, the U.S. Military deployed dozens of aircraft, armed with the most lethal weapons in the World, to retrieve him."

U.S. officials had previously indicated that the F-15E was carrying a two-person crew when it was shot down by Iranian forces on Friday. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards claimed responsibility for the incident, asserting that the jet was brought down in southwestern Iran. Experts analyzing images of debris reported that it appeared consistent with an American F-15.

The pilot had ejected safely and was rescued by military helicopters, but the second crew member, a weapons system officer, remained unaccounted for until the recent operation.

During the recovery efforts on Friday, a U.S. helicopter carrying the rescued pilot came under small arms fire, injuring some crew members onboard; however, it managed to land safely. An A-10 Warthog involved in the search also sustained damage from enemy fire, prompting its pilot to eject over the Persian Gulf, where he was successfully recovered.

In a strategic move, President Trump paused other operations in Iran to prioritize the search and rescue mission, directing hundreds of special operations forces to focus on locating the stranded crew member's beacon.

A U.S. official and a White House representative confirmed that commandos successfully retrieved the missing crew member in a complex operation involving numerous special forces personnel and several warplanes and helicopters. The CIA played a crucial role in this mission.

Prior to locating the airman, the CIA initiated a deception campaign within Iran, suggesting that U.S. forces had already found him and were moving him for extraction. While this operation unfolded, the agency utilized its resources to track the crew member's location in a mountain crevice.

The CIA relayed this information to both the Pentagon and the White House, prompting an immediate rescue mission with real-time updates from the agency.

The downing of the F-15E marks a significant event; it is the first time a U.S. fighter jet has been shot down in combat in over two decades, according to retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Houston Cantwell. Since the onset of hostilities on February 28, at least four U.S. fighter jets have been lost, three of which were due to friendly fire incidents.

Until Sunday’s announcement, President Trump had largely refrained from commenting on the search efforts. In a phone interview on Friday, he expressed uncertainty about potential actions if the crew member were captured by Iran: "Well, I can't comment on it because — we hope that's not going to happen."

In his social media update on Sunday, Trump explained that the White House's previous silence was intended to protect the missing officer, stating that military officials "did not confirm" Friday's rescue of the pilot to avoid jeopardizing subsequent operations.

On Saturday, Trump issued a stern warning to Iran regarding its control over the Strait of Hormuz, demanding that they reopen this vital waterway within 48 hours or face severe consequences.

The ongoing conflict has led to significant disruptions in this crucial maritime route, which accounts for approximately 20% of global oil traffic, resulting in soaring fuel prices worldwide.
