World Cup Hero Begs Trump for Visa Rescue After US Entry Denied

Jul 19 2026

Joan Capdevila, a key player in Spain's 2010 World Cup victory, is in a desperate situation after his US visa was denied, blocking him from attending the final against Argentina. He took to social media to directly appeal to Donald Trump for help, stating, "I NEED HELP. They just told me that I can't travel to the final with my kids because my ESTA has been denied."

The final showdown at MetLife Stadium is set to feature two of the tournament's standout teams. Spain edged out France in a nail-biting semi-final, while Argentina pulled off a thrilling comeback against England, with Lionel Messi playing a pivotal role.

Trump's anticipated presence at the event adds another layer of urgency to Capdevila's plea. The former President is expected to present the trophy to the winning captain, making the stakes even higher for those hoping to witness the match live.

Capdevila expressed his disbelief at being barred from entering the United States, lamenting that he would miss this monumental moment with his children, who are passionate about soccer. "I can't believe they're not letting me into the USA... If anyone knows how to fix this, I'll be grateful to you for life," he added.

The reason for Capdevila's visa denial stems from his participation in a soccer match in Iran back in 2016. This incident has complicated his ability to travel to the US, especially given the tense political climate surrounding Iran's participation in international events.

Iran faced strict entry limitations during the tournament, only allowed into the US the day before each group stage match. This was a direct result of heightened tensions between the two nations, with Trump previously suggesting that Iran might not be allowed to compete at all.

Despite these challenges, Iran managed to play all three group stage matches. However, their head coach criticized the treatment they received, labeling it as a form of "oppression." Amir Ghalenoei stated, "To my players and the team, I want to say to them I'm proud of them. What these young people have done should be written in history because the host country treated us very unfairly."

He urged FIFA to ensure that future World Cups do not subject players and teams to similar treatment. "Despite all of these problems, we've been able to perform well and the world is proud of Iranians and our team," he concluded.
