JD Vance, the Vice President, is under fire for taking shots at Donald Trump during a recent interview with Joe Rogan, a move that reeks of political maneuvering ahead of a potential 2028 presidential run.
In the interview, Vance wasted no time dissecting the ongoing war in Iran, particularly targeting the notion of an endless military campaign. He stated, “What the president has done, I think very, very capably, is said, ‘We’re going to use military force in this situation when it’s connected to something we’re trying to achieve.”
Vance elaborated on military strategy, saying, “So, if you shoot at ships, we’re going to shoot at the facilities at which you used to shoot at the ships.” He emphasized a more calculated approach rather than an open-ended bombing spree.

Left-wing commentator Hasan Piker seized on Vance's remarks, suggesting that the Vice President should be addressing Trump directly instead of airing grievances on Rogan's platform. Piker remarked, “A big part of the reason why he’s saying this is because he wants to run for president. He knows which way the wind is blowing, and he wants to get ahead of it.”
Vance didn’t hold back when discussing Israel’s role in the conflict. He criticized their desire for a perpetual military campaign without clear objectives. “If you actually look at what they’re proposing, they just want the military campaign to go on forever, and they can’t actually identify what it is that they’re trying to accomplish,” he stated.
He continued with a pointed critique: “I think some of them want us to accomplish a complete change in the government of Iran, to topple the clerics, and to replace those clerics with somebody who’s, you know, much friendlier. But, like, what is our experience with doing that? It’s not good. Right?”

Piker noted that Vance's comments come off as an attempt to undermine Trump’s handling of the crisis. He claimed, “This is literally just him campaigning against Donald Trump and the way that Trump has handled the crisis that he started.”
Vance is seen as a frontrunner for the Republican nomination in 2028 and has consistently performed well in prediction polls. His anti-war stance was well-documented before the Iran conflict erupted; however, his position shifted dramatically once hostilities began.
In a previous discussion with Morgan Ortagus in 2024, Vance underscored his priority: stopping Iran from developing nuclear weapons. “I think war often leads to unintended consequences, but preventing Iran from getting a bomb — really, really important,” he asserted.
