Alligator Attack Victim Honored as 'Amazing Human' Amidst Vicious Mockery from Trolls
Online trolls have viciously mocked the horrific death of Brittany Clark, who was brutally killed by an alligator while swimming in the Econlockhatchee River, with some claiming they felt more sympathy for the reptile than for her.

Ashley Borrego, sister of Clark's late best friend Sidney Castillo, shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook just five days after the attack. Castillo died at 20 in a car accident in December 2015. Borrego described Clark as “such [an] amazing human,” highlighting their bond and the memories Clark shared about her sister.

Clark, originally from Sacramento, was living in Orlando when the alligator attacked her, executing a “death roll” that resulted in the complete severing of one arm and severe damage to the other. Her boyfriend Chance Allison and roommate Jayden Hernandez witnessed the brutal scene unfold and attempted to rescue her.
On social media, Clark had frequently honored Castillo, posting tributes like “Happy heavenly birthday to my best friend” alongside a photo of them together. She expressed her longing for Castillo on multiple occasions, including a post from August 20, 2018, where she wrote, “Really missing you this morning.”

Clark was only 31 years old when she died on June 28. Despite expert opinions stating she took precautions to avoid danger, critics slammed her for swimming in a river known to harbor alligators. One TikTok user bluntly stated, “Sorry, but it’s hard for me to feel any compassion for Brittany Clark,” while another added, “I do feel bad for the gators.”

Comments continued to pour in, with one user asserting, “Being from Florida is knowing not to get into any body of water you can’t see through.” However, many Floridians defended Clark, recalling their own experiences swimming in the same river without incident. Courtney Marie from Jacksonville shared a nostalgic photo and remarked on the memories made in that very spot.

“All of these insensitive comments I’ve been reading are absolutely gut-wrenching in the fact that this beautiful girl lost her life in which it could have been any of us multiple times,” she stated.
Dozens of others echoed similar sentiments, reminiscing about summers spent swimming at the state park with friends and family. Borrego has not responded to requests for further comment.
