Bill Maher unleashed a brutal tirade against Donald Trump, mocking the president's birthday plans as a spectacle of absurdity.
On Friday night’s episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, the host targeted Trump ahead of a UFC fight scheduled for Sunday, coinciding with the president's 80th birthday and America’s 250th anniversary.
“Our redneck president is turning 80. And to celebrate, there is a UFC fight on the lawn,” Maher declared, adding, “So the emperor is holding gladiator games on his birthday. Nothing to see here. I wouldn’t think about it too much. Don’t worry about it.”
Maher sarcastically suggested that the fight might also mark a supposed peace deal with Iran, which Trump claims is just around the corner. “But he says that every week. They counted now; he has said it 38 times,” Maher noted.
He continued to ridicule Trump’s fluctuating rhetoric regarding Iran, stating, “It started with, ‘We have a peace deal.’ And then by the end, ‘We’re gonna hit them very hard,’ all caps, ‘Very hard, we’re gonna hit them.’ And he thought about it, with himself, and went back to peace.”
“Do we even really need Iran in this war? I mean, really, do we? Every time they pipe up, he says, ‘Who asked you? Stay out of it,’” Maher concluded.
These jabs came just hours before the UFC fight was set to kick off.
A massive structure has taken over the White House lawn for this unprecedented event, marking the first private sports gathering ever held there. Crews have erected a towering 92-foot “Claw” above the octagon-shaped stage for UFC’s Freedom 250, surrounded by arena-style seating plastered with corporate logos like Polymarket and Bud Light.
The event will host over 4,000 attendees, while a nearby park is expected to accommodate more than 120,000 spectators for a watch party.
However, a federal lawsuit threatened to derail the festivities before they even began. The last-minute filing accused the administration of granting the UFC “unfettered access” to transform public landmarks into lucrative advertising spaces.
Court documents reveal that UFC committed $60 million to this event. It is anticipated to attract multi-million dollar sponsorships and revenue through a broadcast deal with Paramount+, a streaming service linked to Trump allies.
White House officials assert that UFC is footing the bill for this extraordinary production, yet several federal agencies have “allocated significant resources and manpower,” according to officials.
To top it all off, rain is forecasted, threatening to wash out the entire event.
