Billy Bob Thornton, 70, Unleashes Full-Frontal Chaos in ‘Landman’

Billy Bob Thornton, at 70, dives headfirst into a jaw-dropping full-frontal scene in "Landman," where his character, Tommy Norris, inadvertently flashes a hotel employee while in bed.

Thornton shrugged off the shock factor, stating, “I don’t know what the reaction was,” during an appearance at the Newport Beach TV Fest. He recalled the pre-filming discussions, saying, “But obviously before we filmed, it was kind of like, ‘Whoa, yikes. This is interesting.’”

He labeled the scene as “funny,” adding bluntly, “And I didn’t care.”

In this notorious moment from "Landman" Season 2, Tommy rolls over in his sleep, exposing himself to a female hotel worker who screams and jolts him awake. The terrified employee begs him not to assault her as Ali Larter’s character, Angela, emerges from the bathroom and yells, “Put your d–k away!”

Angela quips about Tommy’s sexual habits, saying, “He eats Cialis like M&Ms and runs into door jams all morning with that thing. I’m so sorry about that.”

After the hotel employee bolts, Angela remarks, “Poor thing. If she wasn’t a lesbian when she walked in here, she’s a f–king lesbian now.” Tommy then threatens to “f–k the whole breakfast.”

Christian Wallace, co-creator of "Landman," clarified that Thornton’s scene wasn’t as explicit as it appeared. He explained to the Hollywood Reporter that an on-set intimacy coordinator was involved and that the original prosthetic was deemed too outrageous.

Wallace stated, “We were like, ‘No.’ So we went with a more humble alternative.” He expressed surprise that viewers believed Thornton performed full-frontal nudity, crediting the intimacy coordinator and props team for creating a realistic effect. “They had a whole rig,” he noted, quoting Thornton: “Got my rig on.”

In December 2025, Paramount confirmed a third season renewal for "Landman." The series features Thornton as a landman for an oil company in West Texas and includes stars like Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Michelle Randolph, and Sam Elliott.

Thornton also addressed rumors about his character's fate, telling Us Weekly he believes creator Taylor Sheridan will keep him around. “I think [creator] Taylor is going to let me hang around,” he said.

Despite Sheridan's lack of major awards for his hit series "Yellowstone," Thornton praised him. “It’s like, ‘If you have a disagreement over someone’s way or vibe or whatever it is, that’s not the point,” he stated. “The point is, is he good? He writes great stuff.”

Thornton acknowledged Sheridan's success: “He’s created quite an empire — and you have to respect him for that. He has the fame, he has the success, he deserves to be recognized for his work in TV shows, for sure.”
