Bondi Set to Face House Oversight Committee Next Month Amid Contempt Threat

Apr 30 2026

Next month, former Attorney General Pam Bondi will sit for a closed-door deposition with the House Oversight Committee, delving into the ongoing investigation surrounding Jeffrey Epstein.

The announcement came swiftly from a committee spokeswoman, coinciding with Democrats' declaration of a resolution aimed at holding Bondi in contempt of Congress due to her absence under subpoena earlier this month.

"Clearly we're being effective," remarked Robert Garcia, the committee's Democratic Ranking Member, reflecting on the developments.

Initially scheduled for April 14, Bondi's appearance was canceled by the Justice Department, which cited her removal from office as the reason. A senior official from the department communicated to the committee that the subpoena was directed at Bondi in her official capacity, not personally.

On March 4, the committee voted to subpoena Bondi, with support from five Republicans: Reps. Nancy Mace, Lauren Boebert, Michael Cloud, Scott Perry, and Tim Burchett.

Prior to Wednesday's announcement, Garcia attributed the delay to Bondi's actions. "Pam Bondi has illegally defied our committee, skipped her deposition, and has refused to cooperate," he stated.

In November, Congress passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act, mandating the release of Justice Department records related to federal investigations into Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. Bondi faced significant backlash from officials across party lines regarding the agency's compliance with this law.

The Justice Department ultimately disclosed approximately 3 million pages of documents—about half of its total files—while withholding millions more to protect survivors' personal information and safeguard ongoing federal investigations.

Bondi is set to join a list of notable figures who have testified before the committee, which has previously included former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and billionaire Les Wexner.
