Boyfriend Filmed Himself Abusing Girlfriend with 90% Burns

In a harrowing case out of Miami, a man is under fire for allegedly filming himself sexually abusing his girlfriend, who was left with 90% of her body covered in burns. Juan Andres Lopez, 41, reportedly delayed seeking medical help for nearly a full day after the horrific incident.

The victim, a 23-year-old woman whose identity remains confidential for her protection, tragically succumbed to her injuries. Following her death, Lopez was arrested and slapped with charges of sexual battery and multiple drug offenses.

Lopez, a security guard originally from Texas, is accused of capturing disturbing footage of his girlfriend in a severely injured state, appearing unresponsive and badly burned. In one of the videos, he allegedly sexually assaulted her.

According to the arrest warrant, detectives revealed that the woman suffered extensive second-degree burns before being rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

Instead of calling for help, Lopez allegedly spent hours trying to treat her injuries himself with a concoction of illegal drugs. Detective Brian Bohne from the North Miami Police Department stated that investigators discovered several incriminating videos on Lopez’s phone, including one that purportedly shows him abusing the victim.

First responders were called to the scene hours after the incident, but Lopez reportedly barred them from entering his home. He told paramedics that his girlfriend had a history of drug use and claimed she “didn’t feel the pain.” He also insisted she had been “awake and breathing” just before he finally dialed 911.

Lopez spun a tale that the woman accidentally burned herself while lighting a candle to mask the odor of rubbing alcohol used to clean up after a stray cat. He even claimed to have video evidence showing her refusing medical treatment when he suggested going to the hospital.

However, detectives found troubling internet searches on Lopez’s phone, including “how to treat second degree burns,” “boric acid for burns,” and “fetty distribution Miami charges,” indicating he was fully aware of the gravity of her injuries yet chose to avoid professional medical assistance.

Messages sent from Lopez’s phone revealed his intentions to give the woman drugs “to make her sleepy” and transport her while she was drowsy. He even reached out to her sister on Facebook, expressing concern that she might overdose. Other messages hinted at his fear of impending jail time.

Investigators also recovered disturbing videos showing the woman lying in a large black plastic tote filled with an unknown liquid while in a shower. In these clips, Lopez could be heard instructing her to stop moving and claiming he had made a hole in the bag to prevent her from drowning.

Authorities allege that Lopez attempted to delete another distressing video from his phone before it was recovered. Toxicology reports later revealed the presence of cocaine, fentanyl, ketamine, and methamphetamine in the woman’s system, although officials have not disclosed any conclusions regarding her cause of death.

After his arrest on May 15, a Miami-Dade judge ordered Lopez held without bail on charges including sexual battery of a physically helpless victim and methamphetamine trafficking. He is currently detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami, with more charges potentially on the horizon.
