“Catastrophic” Cyclone Set to Slam Florida, Texas, Louisiana: Experts Sound Alarm

Jul 21 2026

A “catastrophic” cyclone is brewing in the Gulf Coast, poised to unleash flooding rains and fierce winds on Florida, Louisiana, and Texas beginning Monday, forecasters warned.

This tropical depression, a precursor to a full-blown tropical storm, was detected approximately 110 miles south of Panama City, Florida, as reported by the National Hurricane Center.

The cyclone is on a northwest trajectory through the Gulf of America, expected to intensify into a tropical storm as it approaches the U.S. coastline, officials stated.

By Tuesday, storm conditions will stretch from the Florida Panhandle westward toward Louisiana, according to predictions from the National Weather Service in New Orleans.

Flash flooding is anticipated to devastate regions from western Florida to central Texas through Friday, with rainfall potentially hitting 5 inches along the Louisiana coast, forecasters indicated.

Wind gusts could reach 40 mph, with warnings of “life-threatening” storm surges impacting the coasts of Alabama, Mississippi, and southeastern Louisiana.

A storm surge watch is already active from the mouth of the Mississippi River to the Alabama-Florida border along the coastline.

A tropical storm watch is also in effect from Florida’s Ochlockonee River to the Jefferson and Plaquemines parish line in southeast Louisiana.

This impending deluge is projected to generate storm surges of up to four feet along the coasts of Louisiana and Mississippi, with forecasters also cautioning about possible tornadoes in Florida’s Big Bend region.
