Chris Brown Admits Guilt in London Nightclub Brawl, Avoids Serious Assault Charges

Jul 24 2026

Chris Brown, the U.S. singer, just copped a plea deal for affray linked to a violent incident at a London nightclub, sidestepping more severe assault charges that could have landed him in deeper trouble.

In a courtroom showdown at Southwark Crown Court, Brown, aged 37, and his co-defendant, Omololu Akinlolu, aged 40, confirmed their identities and guilty pleas regarding the February 2023 altercation involving music producer Abraham Diaw at Tape nightclub.

Initially facing serious allegations of attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm and a lesser charge of assault causing actual bodily harm, both men denied these accusations and were set for trial in October. However, the guilty plea to affray led prosecutors to drop the more serious charges.

Sentencing for Brown and Akinlolu is scheduled for October 26 at the same court. Prosecutors claimed Brown executed an “unprovoked attack” on Diaw using a tequila bottle, escalating the situation dramatically.

Brown's legal troubles intensified when he was arrested in May 2025 upon returning to Britain for the first time since the nightclub incident. Initially denied bail, his global “Breezy Bowl XX” tour faced uncertainty until he secured release by posting a hefty £5 million ($6.66 million) security fee.

As he exited the courtroom, fans erupted in cheers, chanting “Breezy! Breezy!” while he took time to sign autographs for his supporters.
