Chris Brown, the notorious figure in the music industry, pleaded guilty to affray in a London court after a violent incident in 2023 where he smashed a tequila bottle over a producer's head.

In a brief five-minute hearing at Southwark Crown Court, Brown and his co-defendant, rapper Omololu Akinlolu, both entered the same plea. Charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon were dropped.

Brown, aged 37, was released on bail following the hearing. He faces sentencing on October 26 for the affray charge, which could land him behind bars for up to three years. Affray is defined as using or threatening violence that instills fear for safety.

Upon arrival at the courthouse, Brown was surrounded by security guards while fans gathered outside. He sported a tan suit, gold-rimmed sunglasses, and a St. Louis Cardinals baseball cap.

The incident that led to his arrest occurred in May 2025, two years after he allegedly attacked music producer Abe Diaw at a London nightclub. Brown was taken into custody at the five-star Lowry Hotel on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Initially denying the attack, Brown posted a £5 million ($6.75 million) bail, allowing him to continue his Breezy Bowl XX tour across Europe and North America last summer.

In October 2023, Diaw filed a lawsuit against Brown, claiming he was assaulted eight months earlier. The producer alleged that Brown inflicted severe injuries by striking him with a bottle of Don Julio 1942 at Tape London nightclub.

Diaw accused Brown of ruthlessly stomping on him and kicking him in the neck, rendering him unconscious for 30 seconds.

According to the lawsuit, Diaw suffered “lacerations on his head and torn ligaments in his leg” from the brutal attack. He also claimed that Brown engaged in defamatory conduct by spreading false rumors about him and his clients post-incident, including labeling him a thief to damage his professional relationships.

Brown's legal troubles span over two decades. Recently, he was ordered to pay $13 million to his former housekeeper after she was viciously attacked by his 200-pound dog in 2020.

During that case, Brown testified that he left the scene of the dog attack to avoid media attention and prevent his voice from being recorded on a 911 call.
His most infamous legal scandal erupted in 2009 when he pleaded guilty to felony assault for brutally beating his then-girlfriend, Rihanna.
