Dan Levy's New Netflix Series 'Big Mistakes' Is a Hilarious Rollercoaster

Apr 18 2026

After six years since the conclusion of his acclaimed sitcom “Schitt’s Creek,” Dan Levy is back with a fresh comedic venture titled “Big Mistakes.” This new series blends chaos, dysfunction, and humor into a delightful mix that keeps viewers engaged.

Levy not only stars in but also co-created and executive-produced this high-stakes comedy thriller. The show presents a messy yet entertaining family saga that, despite its occasional plot missteps, features a charming cast that elevates the viewing experience.

In the lead role, Levy portrays Nicky, an openly gay pastor at Glenview Community Church who navigates the complexities of dating his boyfriend in secret to maintain his congregation's approval. His sister, Morgan, played by Taylor Ortega, returns home after her dreams of acting in New York City fall flat. Their reunion brings back memories of her clingy high school boyfriend, Max (Jack Innanen).

The ensemble cast also includes Abby Quinn, Elizabeth Perkins, Mark Ivanir, Ilia Volok, Jacob Gutierrez, Joe Barbara, and Darren Goldstein.

The series opens with a poignant scene: Nicky and Morgan’s grandmother is on her deathbed. Their anxious mother, Linda (Laurie Metcalf), strives to make her last days comfortable and suggests they find something nostalgic for their Nonna. A trip to the store leads to a fateful decision when Morgan steals a necklace, unaware of its significant value.

This impulsive act spirals into a series of “big mistakes” that inadvertently entangle the siblings in organized crime, forcing them to navigate a world filled with dangerous gangsters. While the storyline may seem far-fetched at times, it maintains momentum across its eight binge-worthy half-hour episodes.

Even when the crime elements feel disjointed, the chemistry between Levy and Ortega shines through. Their witty exchanges and frantic sibling dynamic are captivating enough to keep viewers invested in their unpredictable journey.

As a duo, Levy and Ortega deliver comedic brilliance. The season concludes with a twist that leaves audiences eager for more, should the show be renewed. Levy has already mapped out a five-season arc for the series.

“I know exactly where it’s going,” he shared in an interview, expressing hope that viewers will tune in to continue the story. “There’s a lot more to come.”

All episodes of “Big Mistakes” are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
