Election Conspiracy Peddler Tina Peters Walks Free After Short Sentence

Jun 01 2026

Tina Peters, the former clerk who dove headfirst into the election conspiracy cesspool, is out of prison after a mere fraction of her nine-year sentence. The release came after President Donald Trump twisted the arm of Colorado’s Democratic governor, pushing for her early freedom.

The Colorado Department of Corrections confirmed Peters’ release. They offered no further details about the 70-year-old inmate. Her sentence was slashed by Governor Jared Polis last month following a relentless pressure campaign from Trump aimed at the governor and the state.

Peters barely served 25% of her sentence. She made history as the first local election official charged with breaching security protocols post-2020 election. She smuggled in a computer expert linked to My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell, who has been vocal in denying Trump’s electoral loss. This expert copied data from the county’s Dominion Voting Systems server during an update in 2021.

After this breach, Peters took the stage with Lindell at a so-called “cybersymposium” that promised to unveil evidence of a rigged election. Video footage and images of the server upgrade, including sensitive passwords, were leaked online, fueling baseless claims that voting machines were manipulated to rob Trump of victory.

Polis commuted Peters’ sentence on May 15. In his letter, he acknowledged that while Peters committed serious crimes deserving of prison time, her sentence was “extremely unusual and lengthy” for a first-time non-violent offender.

Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold issued a statement on Monday, warning that Peters’ release would “embolden the election denier movement.” She noted that since the clemency announcement, Peters has continued to propagate falsehoods and conspiracy theories regarding the election.
