Emily Blunt Craves a Steamy Reunion with Anne Hathaway as 'Devil Wears Prada' Character Becomes a Lesbian Icon

Emily Blunt is diving headfirst into the wild world of her character, Emily Charlton, from 'Devil Wears Prada,' now dubbed a "lesbian icon." This revelation comes as she faces questions about her character's sexuality.

During an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Blunt, 43, tackled the topic when Cohen, 58, read a fan's question about whether she would support an openly lesbian portrayal of her character in a sequel.

Blunt didn’t hold back. “I’d love to get it on with Annie Hathaway,” she quipped, suggesting there’s a love story waiting to unfold.

The original 'Devil Wears Prada' hit screens in 2006, and after its massive success, Blunt reprised her role alongside Hathaway and Meryl Streep in a sequel released earlier this year.

While discussing her character's potential romantic life, Blunt also reflected on how some fans view Charlton as the villain. “When I played her in the first movie, I never saw her as a bitch. I saw her as desperate,” she stated. She described Charlton as someone who defines herself by her job and success, calling her “delusional and a lunatic” but still expressing affection for the character.

Cohen noted that Blunt’s portrayal infused vulnerability into Charlton, softening her potentially nasty edges. Blunt responded, “She’s tragic though. Think of how empty that life is.”

In past interviews, Blunt has expressed her aspirations to become a "gay icon." In 2009, she told The Guardian, “Yes, I’m going to become a gay icon.” She reminisced about feeling drawn to magnetic and beautiful girls during her school years, acknowledging the powerful presence they held.

In 2014, she embraced her fanbase in an interview with The Advocate, stating, “I know that’s my demographic. That’s been made clear to me by my fans.” She added, “I love it. I think it’s so cool, because one day I hope to be a gay icon.”
