Eric Trump’s Airport Logo Launch Bombs Amid Backlash
Eric Trump took to Elon Musk’s X platform on Tuesday, proudly unveiling the logo for the freshly minted Donald J. Trump International Airport in Palm Beach, Florida. But instead of applause, he was met with a tidal wave of backlash.
“Extremely proud” was how he described his feelings about the rebranding of what was once Palm Beach International Airport. But pride quickly turned to ridicule as critics pounced on the controversial renaming, which is linked to a trademark deal with the Trump family business.
“There is no person more deserving of this incredible honor than @realDonaldTrump! Congratulations Dad!” Eric gushed, adding, “Looking forward to seeing flights landing at ‘DJT’ very very soon!”
But the enthusiasm didn’t last long. California Governor Gavin Newsom’s press team wasted no time in firing back, pointing out, “Gas prices are up over 50% since your dad started a reckless war in Iran.” They followed up with a sarcastic jab: “But congrats on the airport logo. Huge accomplishment!”
As if that wasn’t enough, critics took to social media to mock the new branding, even going so far as to remix the logo to include references to Jeffrey Epstein, the late convicted sex offender who had ties to the president.
The backlash highlights a growing trend where political figures and their families face intense scrutiny over their actions and associations. Eric’s attempt at a celebratory moment quickly spiraled into a public relations nightmare, showcasing how deeply intertwined politics and personal branding can be in today’s digital age.
With the airport's new identity now a punchline, it raises questions about the future of such branding efforts and whether they can withstand the storm of public opinion.
