Gabby Logan can’t step into a store without clutching an imaginary microphone, a bizarre quirk that’s become part of her shopping routine.
The BBC World Cup host has been in the game for four decades, presenting at major sporting events. Her wardrobe choices are dictated by her on-screen roles, ensuring every outfit aligns with her mic stance.
Logan revealed, “When I’m trying clothes on I use an imaginary microphone.”
She added, “So my husband - it drives him insane - I go, ‘do you like this coat?’ And I stand there with an imaginary microphone because everything has to get worn for work first then it gets relegated to the normal (wardrobe).”
Her work wardrobe doesn’t just sit pretty; it’s functional. “If I’m trying a new coat on, half the time I’m outdoors in the cold doing my job, and the coat might look good on the hanger, but then if you tried broadcasting in it, it’s a whole (different thing).”
This weekend, she’ll don something special as she leads the BBC’s coverage of the World Cup Final on Sunday, marking a historic moment as the first woman to do so.
Yet, Logan harbors a more modest ambition tied to the sitcom Ted Lasso. She expressed her frustration on the Romesh Ranganathan Show: “I’m a bit annoyed. I do like Ted Lasso and I have been quite annoyed from the very start that I haven’t had a cameo.”
She pointed out that fellow sports hosts have made appearances: “(Sports host) Rebecca Lowe’s had one, Gary’s had one (Lineker).”
Logan also shared a quirky connection to the show: “They also told me that I used to live in a house in Chiswick and he (Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis) stayed in my old house. He was renting my old house in Chiswick.”
She frequents Richmond for hair appointments, noting, “Richmond has become Ted Lasso Alley. There’s an alleyway that has got the Ted Lasso shop. American tourists just hang out there. I feel so close to it.”
Logan concluded with anticipation: “I’m on the precipice of a phone call coming in anytime soon.”
