Gavin Newsom Unleashes Fury: Trump’s UFC Freedom 250 a Cash Grab for Himself

Jun 15 2026

Gavin Newsom blasted Donald Trump for using UFC Freedom 250 as a vehicle to enrich himself and his family, laying out four distinct ways the president profited from the spectacle.

Trump's 80th birthday bash coincided with the nation’s 250th anniversary, featuring seven brutal fights inside a wire-mesh cage on the White House South Lawn. The event kicked off with Trump and UFC chief Dana White strutting from the Oval Office to the Blue Room Balcony, where they stood for the national anthem as fighter jets roared overhead.

“The White House was built to serve the American people,” Newsom declared on X after the final fight. “Tonight it was used to promote a company the President owns stock in, sell subscriptions, promote corporate sponsors, push Trump crypto, and enrich the President and his family.”

Newsom didn’t hold back, stating, “The founders warned us about kings enriching themselves from public office. They did not fight a revolution for this.”

His press office took to X, branding Trump the “MOST CORRUPT PRESIDENT IN AMERICAN HISTORY,” sharing a headline that revealed Trump bought stock in UFC’s parent company while promoting the White House fight.

Former First Lady Hillary Clinton also weighed in, reminding everyone, “Remember, during today’s literal cage match on the White House grounds: No matter what, it’s not his house. It’s our house.”

The National Park Service reported over $60 million and tens of thousands of hours of labor were invested in constructing the arena. This rare outdoor UFC event epitomized the lucrative relationship between White and Trump, yielding personal, political, and financial gains for both.

White’s inaugural card as UFC president took place in 2001 at Trump Taj Mahal. Trump has attended four UFC events as president, entering the cage to rock music and patriotic chants from fans.

White has also introduced Trump at two Republican National Conventions. Before the final fight, lightweight fighters Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje emerged from the Oval Office to walk to the Octagon.

Gaethje stunned Topuria in a bloody four-round battle. Afterward, Trump entered the cage to shake hands and watch a fireworks display that erupted well after 1 a.m.

The night concluded with many winning fighters thanking Trump and God. Heavyweight Josh Hokit escalated things with an outrageous claim based on a right-wing conspiracy theory about a former first lady.

“Michelle Obama is a man. Am I right, America?” he shouted before draping a chain around Trump’s neck.
