Italy's Prime Minister Unleashes Fury on Trump Amidst Savage Feud

Jun 20 2026

Giorgia Meloni, Italy's Prime Minister, escalated a vicious public spat with Donald Trump, igniting flames over accusations that she begged for a photo op during the G7 summit.

Trump unleashed a tirade on Truth Social, claiming Meloni repeatedly sought a picture with him, linking her plummeting popularity in Italy to her alleged desperation.

“Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni asked, over and over, for a picture with me during the G-7 meeting in France,” Trump declared. He pointed fingers at her declining approval ratings, suggesting it stemmed from her rejection of U.S. support against Iran.

“Now, after the United States defeated Iran militarily, she wants to be friends again in order to get her ‘numbers up.’ No thanks!!!” he added, throwing down the gauntlet.

Meloni retaliated fiercely on Instagram, dismissing Trump's “unprovoked attacks” as “senseless.” She asserted that her popularity hinges on her commitment to Italy's national interests.

“That is also what I did regarding the American military bases in Italy. Their use is governed by agreements that we have always respected,” she stated, emphasizing Italy's sovereignty.

She bluntly noted that her ties with Trump “certainly have not helped” her standing back home.

Previously, Meloni adopted a more diplomatic stance when Trump claimed she “begged” for a photo. He recounted feeling pity for her desire to capture a moment together.

Meloni expressed disbelief, labeling Trump's narrative as “completely made up.” She questioned why the U.S. President would treat allies this way, highlighting it was not an isolated incident.

In a show of solidarity with Meloni, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced the cancellation of his upcoming trip to the U.S., citing Trump's offensive remarks.

Tajani stated, “The serious and offensive words of President Trump towards Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni offend all of Italy.”

“For this reason, I have decided to cancel my visit to the United States scheduled for the next 21 and 22 June,” he concluded.
