James Taylor Snubs Swift and Kelce's Wedding for Tanglewood Tradition

James Taylor blew off the wedding of the year, opting for a 52-year-old tradition over the nuptials of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. The singer revealed he missed the event due to his longstanding commitment to perform at the Tanglewood Music Festival.

“You know, [my wife Kim] and I were invited to a wedding at Madison Square Garden tonight,” the “Fire and Rain” artist told the audience on Friday, as reported by the Berkshire Eagle.

He extended his well-wishes to the couple, hoping for “happiness and smooth sailing.”

A representative for Swift did not respond to requests for comment.

The 1970s music legend, after whom Swift is named, has been a staple at Tanglewood in Lenox, Massachusetts, performing an annual Independence Day concert since 1974. This year marks 52 years of this tradition.

The concert typically takes place at the Koussevitzky Music Shed, culminating in a patriotic fireworks display.

At 78 years old, Taylor isn’t alone in skipping the high-profile wedding. Ryan Seacrest, 51, also missed out despite RSVPing. He disclosed on Monday that work commitments forced him to cancel.

“I RSVP’d to go, and then Disney hired me to do the Fourth of July 250 special on the 3rd and the 4th,” he explained during “On Air With Ryan Seacrest.”

Seacrest felt “kind of torn” between attending the star-studded celebration at Madison Square Garden or hosting the TV special.

“Trust me, I went through the minutes,” he said. “I couldn’t have done both. And the actual wedding was in the afternoon.”

Other notable absentees included Harry Styles, who was busy with his European tour, and Serena Williams, who had to withdraw from a Wimbledon doubles match due to injury. Robert Pattinson also missed the festivities, citing filming commitments for “Batman.”

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end and “Opalite” hitmaker, both 36, exchanged vows at Madison Square Garden on Friday.

This extravagant affair featured luxury items like Cartier watches, a designer handbag, and a vintage 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle being raffled off, alongside a staggering six-figure security cost.

Despite Taylor's absence, Swift managed to secure a major musical act for the event—Sir Paul McCartney reportedly performed The Beatles’ classic “I Want to Hold Your Hand” for the newlyweds and their guests.
