Pop icon Justin Timberlake found himself in a peculiar situation during his DWI arrest in the Hamptons back in June 2024, attempting to inject humor into an otherwise serious encounter with law enforcement.
Footage recently made public shows Timberlake joking about his race while reviewing arrest paperwork. “White?” he quipped, glancing at the document before quickly adding, “I’m just kidding. I’m just kidding, man.”
As officers from the Suffolk County Police Department informed him of his impending night in a cell, Timberlake attempted to lighten the mood further. “All night?” he exclaimed, “Yo, you guys are wild, man.”
However, not all interactions were lighthearted. Tension escalated at various points during the arrest, particularly when officers asked him to consent to a chemical test. “No, I’m not doing the chemical test,” Timberlake responded, handcuffed and visibly frustrated, trailing off with, “Guys, I don’t mean no harm…”
At another moment captured on body camera, he expressed discontent with the treatment he received. “You boys treating me like I’m a criminal,” he remarked as officers explained the traffic violations that led to his arrest.
The initial stop occurred after Timberlake allegedly failed to halt at a stop sign and swerved into the center of the road. He struggled with field sobriety tests, remarking, “These are like really hard tests.”
Despite attempts by his legal team to prevent its release, the Sag Harbor Police Department shared the video of Timberlake’s arrest on a Friday. Redacted clips surfaced on various platforms shortly thereafter.
Initial reports of the incident revealed Timberlake's attempts to leverage his celebrity status during the stop, claiming, “I’m Justin Timberlake” and lamenting that “This is going to ruin the tour.”
In September 2024, Timberlake reached a plea agreement with prosecutors for a lesser charge. The outcome mandated a $500 fine and 25 hours of community service.
