Karoline Leavitt Balances Motherhood and White House Chaos

Karoline Leavitt, back in the White House Press Secretary role, is juggling motherhood with the chaos of political life, and she’s not holding back.

On July 18, she posted a heartwarming image on Instagram Stories featuring her newborn daughter, Viviana, peacefully sleeping on her chest. This comes after welcoming Viviana in May with her husband, Nicholas Riccio, who is 60 years old. The couple also has a two-year-old son named Niko. Leavitt captioned the post, “Saturday snuggles,” giving a glimpse into her life as a new mother while managing high-stakes responsibilities.

Leavitt returned to the White House after maternity leave, and on July 16, Fox News interrupted its programming to broadcast her first press briefing since her absence. During this briefing, a reporter asked her about the secret to balancing motherhood and career as a mother of two. Leavitt responded candidly, stating that it “takes a village” to achieve that balance.

She expressed gratitude for the support she receives at home, particularly from her husband, who is caring for their children while she fulfills her duties. “Thanks for the question. It is great to be back with all of you; I don’t think there is a secret. It’s tough to show up every day and keep going,” she said during the press conference.

Leavitt emphasized the challenges of her role, stating, “For me, this is not a job. I view this as public service.” She concluded with a heartfelt sentiment: “There’s nothing better than being a mother.”

Before her press briefing, she announced her return on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “I will be back at the podium today at 1 PM. Tune in!” However, the briefing faced delays due to “technical difficulties,” with screens going black.

Her return to the podium coincided with President Donald Trump’s scheduled primetime address later that evening. While many expected him to discuss the ongoing Iran War, he instead focused on reiterating discredited claims regarding the 2020 presidential election fraud.

Trump, who is 80 years old, posted on Truth Social prior to his speech: “President Trump will be making a speech to the nation on Thursday evening, 9 p.m. eastern. Thank you for your attention to the matter.”
