Lara Trump Disses 'Freak Show' Met Gala, Reveals Donald's Reaction
Lara Trump unleashed her scathing critique of the Met Gala, dubbing it a “freak show” while revealing how her father-in-law, Donald Trump, reacted to the family’s missing invite.
On May 4, the fashion elite gathered at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, with A-listers like Madonna, Beyoncé, and Kim Kardashian strutting their stuff. But the Trump family was notably absent, and Lara, 43, didn’t hold back her disdain during an appearance on Fox News.
After Laura Ingraham quipped that Trump was “crushed” over not getting an invite, Lara shot back with a sarcastic jab: “He can barely function for sure. I’m sure this is very devastating to the president.”
Though she’s never graced the Met Gala herself, Lara reminisced about its past elegance, claiming it was once a “very regal affair.” Now? She believes it has “devolved into a bit of a freak show.”
But her critique didn’t stop there. Lara took aim at the attendees, labeling them “the biggest group of hypocrites you are ever going to see.” She continued, “All these people want to seem to do is preach to us, show us how morally superior they are,” adding that “people are not very interested in going to see their movies.”
According to Lara, the extravagant displays at events like the Met Gala have alienated celebrities from their fans. “When this is the way you present yourself, I just don’t think the average American has any way whatsoever to relate to you,” she stated.
Wrapping up her rant, she insisted, “I don’t think the president has lost any sleep over it,” and reassured viewers that “nobody in our family is very concerned.” Yet she couldn’t resist one last dig: “I’m sure we all got invited; they just got lost in the mail.”
Interestingly, Anna Wintour has publicly admitted to banning only one person from the gala—Donald Trump himself. Back in 2017, during an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, she confirmed this snub.
While several Trump family members have attended the Met Gala in the past—Melania and Donald even got engaged there in 2004—their appearances have dwindled since he entered politics. The last time Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner graced the event was in 2016, just months before Trump took office.
