On July 4, masked members of the white nationalist group Patriot Front paraded through Washington, D.C., with a reported 400 participants, showcasing their divisive agenda just before Independence Day festivities.

Social media posts confirmed the group's presence, with hundreds seen boarding D.C. Metro trains in their signature uniforms. Photographers captured the scene as they traveled to the capital.

Footage circulated on various platforms, including Patriot Front's Telegram channel, depicted the group marching near the U.S. Capitol and Union Station. They donned khaki pants, blue shirts, white face coverings, and sunglasses, brandishing flags that included their own, Confederate flags, and variations of the U.S. flag while chanting “Reclaim America.”

By midday, they boarded Metro trains and disembarked at New Carrollton, Maryland, located in the northeast suburbs of Washington.

Washington’s Metropolitan Police monitored Patriot Front’s activities, stating there were no arrests or complaints linked to the march. A spokesperson emphasized their commitment to public safety while recognizing individuals' rights to express their views peacefully.

Patriot Front emerged in 2017 after the violent “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, breaking away from Vanguard America. The Southern Poverty Law Center identifies them as a group known for their uniforms and flash-mob-style demonstrations.

Their manifesto declares that “Democracy has failed this once great nation,” calling for a “hard reset” to restore the traditions of European settlers.

John Cohen, a former counterterrorism official, noted that Patriot Front attempts to present itself as mainstream while promoting white supremacist and anti-immigrant ideologies. Their public demonstrations during national holidays highlight ongoing issues related to white supremacy in America.

Luke Baumgartner from George Washington University’s Program on Extremism pointed out that while the group uses patriotic colors, their logo mirrors the fascio emblem associated with Benito Mussolini’s National Fascist Party from early 20th-century Italy.

Baumgartner asserted that at their core, they are a white supremacist organization using public appearances to propagate the belief that America is exclusively for white people.
