Trump's State Fair Flops: Crowds Vanish as Flyover Fizzles

Jul 05 2026

President Donald Trump’s Great American State Fair is a ghost town, with attendance numbers that would make any event planner cringe.

Fox News aired a clip of a military flyover above the fair, but viewers were more fixated on the glaring absence of crowds at the fairgrounds.

The flyover occurred on July 4, showcasing four aircraft soaring over the malfunctioning Ferris wheel at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Trump, 80, launched the event with a rally on June 24, but since then, the fair has been marred by oppressive heat, concert cancellations, and dismal turnout.

As the planes flew low, the crowd's response was tepid at best, barely audible over the roar of engines. The video caption read, "Flyovers for Independence Day never get old," but the reality was starkly different.

Social media erupted with demands for the cameraman to pan down and reveal the empty fairgrounds. One user challenged, "Pan down to see the crowds. I dare you."

Another quipped, "Nothing beats an Independence Day flyover. But if no one was there to hear it at the State Fair, did it still make a sound?"

A third commentator slammed Fox News for avoiding the obvious question: "So NO ONE on Fox News has the professional courage to be honest and address the 'ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM?' Was anybody there at the fair today?"

Despite the backlash, a lone supporter expressed gratitude: "Thank you, President Trump, for ensuring our nation could gather together at the capital to celebrate its 250th birthday."

On June 19, Fox News had broadcast live coverage of Trump unveiling a new Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews in Prince George's County, Maryland. He hinted at a grand military flyover for the July 4th Semiquincentennial celebrations.

Trump boasted about the upcoming flyover, stating, "And it was all of the generals. They wanted to do something special. They wanted to get it done for the 250th year." He promised an unprecedented display of military aircraft.

"We have America’s 250th coming up in a little while. I think I can say we’re going to do a flyover like no flyover. This is going to lead to a large number of planes. I do love the F-22!" he declared.

He continued, "They’re gonna have the F-35s. They’re going to have 60 of them. They’re going to have everything. This will be a flyover on July 4th. I think I can say we’ve never seen the likes."

Trump concluded with enthusiasm about pilot participation: "Every pilot wants to do it. Those pilots are all fighting to do it. We’re going to have a lot of planes flying over the Capitol and over the White House."
