Dave Chappelle Slams Trump Over Threats to Haitians: 'Leave Them Alone!'
Dave Chappelle unleashed a direct challenge to President Donald Trump, demanding he cease his attacks on the Haitian community in Springfield, Ohio. “Mr. Trump, please leave those Haitians in Springfield alone. We love them,” Chappelle declared during a CNN appearance.
Trump has turned the Haitian community into a political battleground for the 2024 election, making outrageous claims about them eating pets and threatening deportation. A recent Supreme Court ruling now permits him to terminate their temporary protected status, paving the way for the deportation of migrants from Haiti and Syria who have been legally residing in the U.S.
Chappelle’s remarks came during CNN’s “Independence Eve” event, hosted by Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen. Cohen posed a provocative question about Chappelle's pride in being American and his perspective on the current state of the nation.
“Boy, that’s a loaded question,” Chappelle responded, humorously noting, “Now I see why Trump gets mad at y’all all the time. Why would you ask me that?”
He shifted to a serious tone, expressing his discontent with certain government actions but reaffirming his belief in his fellow Americans.
“If I’m overseas or around the world, anytime I see an American over there, we just give each other the ‘Fight Club’ look, because we live in a madness that only we really understand what it’s all about,” he stated.
The audience erupted in cheers at Chappelle’s defense of the Haitian migrants, prompting a toast from Cooper and Cohen.
