Mommy Blogger Runs Over Toddler Son in Heartbreaking Accident: ‘Our Worst Day’
A Texas-based parenting influencer has opened up about a tragic accident involving her 23-month-old son, Henry, who was unintentionally struck by her car. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Kelly Hopton-Jones described the incident as a “true nightmare” for any parent.
On Wednesday, Hopton-Jones, 36, was preparing to take her four-year-old daughter, Lily, to pick up donuts before a dance performance. As she was leaving, Henry unexpectedly dashed out of the garage, leading to a devastating moment that changed their lives.

“I was driving,” she recounted, emphasizing the speed at which the incident unfolded. Neighbors quickly intervened, taking care of Lily while Hopton-Jones rushed Henry to the emergency room.
Medical evaluations revealed that while Henry suffered fractures to his pelvis and some abrasions, X-rays of his chest, legs, and neck showed no serious injuries. A neurological exam also indicated he had not sustained any head trauma.

Reflecting on the day, Hopton-Jones described it as “the worst day of our lives,” expressing gratitude that her son wasn’t more severely injured. “It’s a true miracle,” she stated, grappling with the emotional aftermath of the event.
In her post, she shared images of herself holding Henry’s hand in the hospital, revealing the struggle to comprehend how such an accident could occur when they were so close. “We keep replaying it, trying to understand how this could’ve happened,” she wrote, searching for answers that elude her.

Hopton-Jones also reflected on the “what ifs” that haunt parents in the wake of such incidents. “If the morning had looked different... if my husband had gone to work like he normally would have, both kids would have been safely in their car seats,” she mused. The emotional toll of questioning every detail is palpable in her words.
“We could drive ourselves crazy with the what ifs, and honestly, we are a little bit,” she admitted. “But accidents happen.” Her candid account serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of parenting and the fragility of life.
