Navy Officer Executed by Jealous Boyfriend in Twisted Love Triangle

Jul 10 2026

A boyfriend spiraled into a jealous rage, allegedly executing his Naval officer girlfriend and her homeless lover inside their home near San Diego. Prosecutors claim Ryan Wesley Proffitt, 27, shot Courtney Chandler, 28, and Nicholas McClure, 27, after agreeing to an open relationship that spiraled out of control.

Proffitt is charged with the murders of Chandler and McClure, who had recently moved into the couple's military housing in Ramona. The relationship dynamics shifted dramatically when Chandler began dating McClure, prompting Proffitt's escalating jealousy.

On the day of the alleged murders, Proffitt reportedly armed himself and confronted Chandler and McClure about their relationship. Prosecutors assert that he planned the attack, loading a firearm beforehand. Chandler seemed aware of the potential danger, having texted a friend about Proffitt's gun.

During a confrontation, McClure charged at Proffitt, who fired three shots at him before turning the weapon on Chandler. After the shooting, Proffitt called 911, describing the incident as a "lovers quarrel," according to reports.

When police arrived, they found Proffitt sitting on the steps of the military complex, casually drinking a beer. He has since pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder and remains in custody without bail.

A GoFundMe campaign for Chandler paints her as a vibrant individual, described as a "sister, daughter, granddaughter, and so much more." The campaign notes her tragic murder while on deployment in San Diego alongside another person.

The campaign highlights her love for fishing, the outdoors, hunting, the military, and anime. It also mentions her upcoming birthday—she would have turned 29 on July 24—emphasizing the profound loss felt by her family.

McClure's mother revealed that he was originally from Kentucky and had moved to California to pursue automotive classes while trying to "find his way." The investigation by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office is ongoing.

Proffitt is accused of gunning both Chandler and McClure down on Monday.
