Patriots Coach Mike Vrabel to Pursue ‘Therapy’ Following Dianna Russini Photo Scandal

Apr 23 2026

New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel will be absent this weekend as the team prepares for the 2026 NFL Draft.

“I promised my family, this organization, and this team that I would give them the best version of myself. To achieve that, I have committed to pursuing therapy starting this weekend,” Vrabel, 50, stated on Wednesday, April 22. “This is something I’ve contemplated deeply and would recommend to a player if I were in a counseling role.”

He added, “Leading by example has always been my goal, and I believe this step is essential for me to be the best husband, father, and coach. Admitting this isn’t easy, but I know it will help me grow. I appreciate the support I’ve received and promise to emerge with renewed strength.”

Married since 1999 to Jen, Vrabel is a father to sons Tyler, 25, and Carter, 24.

According to reports, the head coach “plans to be with his family this weekend outside of Massachusetts.”

The NFL Draft kicks off in Pittsburgh on Thursday, April 23, with rounds 4 through 7 concluding on Saturday, April 25.

Despite his absence, Vrabel will “still be in contact” with the team during the draft, where they hold eight picks.

Amid the ongoing controversy regarding images of him and NFL insider Dianna Russini, Vrabel’s announcement comes at a pivotal moment. Earlier this month, Page Six published photos showing the two enjoying leisure time at a luxury resort in Arizona.

Both Vrabel and Russini, 43, have maintained that their relationship is strictly platonic.

During a press conference in Foxborough on Tuesday, April 21, Vrabel addressed the situation publicly for the first time since the photos surfaced.

He continued, “The questions I’ve answered for the team will remain private. My commitment to this football team is strong, and I’m eager to coach them. Each day will be approached with humility and focus. My family, this organization, the team, staff, coaches, and fans deserve my best moving forward.”

In light of the scandal, Russini resigned from her position at The Athletic on April 14. When questioned about her resignation during the press conference, Vrabel deflected.
