Mike Vrabel Skips NFL Draft Press Conference Amid Dianna Russini Scandal

Apr 14 2026

New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel will not attend the team's pre-NFL Draft press conference, a decision linked to an ongoing controversy surrounding NFL insider Dianna Russini.

Scheduled for Monday, April 13, the press conference will instead feature Eliot Wolf, the Patriots' executive vice president of player personnel, as reported by ESPN's Mike Reiss. Vrabel, 50, is expected to remain silent until the draft begins on April 23 in Pittsburgh.

Last year, shortly after his hiring, Vrabel participated in a pre-draft press conference. However, this year marks a notable shift; ESPN indicated that he "isn't expected to address reporters until the draft."

Interestingly, USA Today highlighted that Vrabel was not listed as a participant in the press conference as early as March 12, weeks before the controversy with Russini escalated.

Photos surfaced on April 7, showing Vrabel and Russini, 43, engaging in what appeared to be intimate activities at a luxury resort in Sedona, Arizona. Taken on March 28, the images depict them linking fingers and sharing a hot tub.

In response to the viral photos, both Vrabel and Russini, who are married, issued statements attempting to downplay their relationship. "These photos show a completely innocent interaction and any suggestion otherwise is laughable," Vrabel stated to Page Six. "This doesn’t deserve any further response."

Russini echoed this sentiment, asserting, "The photos don’t represent the group of six people who were hanging out during the day. Like most journalists in the NFL, reporters interact with sources away from stadiums and other venues."

Despite their claims, no one else has come forward to corroborate their account of the events. Initially, The Athletic defended Russini following the photo release but announced an investigation into her conduct on April 11.

"The Athletic is investigating the conduct of a senior NFL reporter, Dianna Russini, after the publication of photographs that showed her with Mike Vrabel," a source familiar with the inquiry revealed. The outlet emphasized that its editorial guidelines require journalists to avoid conflicts of interest or any appearance thereof to maintain credibility.

During this investigation, Russini will be prohibited from working for The Athletic.
