PGA Star Cameron Young Talks Trump After Dominating Victory

Cameron Young just crushed the competition, snagging his second PGA Tour win of the 2026 season with a jaw-dropping six-shot lead over Scottie Scheffler at the Cadillac Championship.
Donald Trump, flanked by family members including future University of Miami golfer Kai Trump, made a flashy entrance midway through the final round at Trump National Doral's Blue Monster course. After Young's victory, Trump congratulated him with a handshake, all while tweeting a wild rant that had nothing to do with golf.
Young, who lit up the Trump-owned course with a stunning 19-under par over four rounds, shared insights from his chat with the former president during his post-round press conference. However, the 28-year-old kept his political views under wraps, especially after Rory McIlroy's recent candid comments about Trump went viral.
"He was just very complimentary. I’ve met him before, and he really loves us golfers," Young said, keeping it diplomatic.
"He appreciates how talented everyone is on the PGA Tour. I thanked him for hosting us, and that was pretty much it," he added, as reported by Mirror US.
Young pocketed a whopping $3.6 million for this victory, making it the second-largest payday of his career—just shy of the $4.5 million he raked in at the 2026 Players Championship.
Trump watched the action unfold from the 'Trump Suite,' soaking in every moment.
Despite a two-hour rain delay pushing back Sunday’s final round, Young didn’t let it faze him. He carded a solid four-under round to secure his wire-to-wire win.
Unsurprisingly, most of his post-round media buzz centered around his encounter with Trump. "He’s nothing if not a very interesting man. He’s powerful, and it’s an honor to play in front of him," Young told reporters.
He made sure to express his gratitude: "I’m hugely grateful to him and his family for these beautiful properties that allow us to play great tournaments." Young continued, "This is a special place and a fantastic championship golf course. I’m thankful to have it back on the schedule."
Young is off to a hot start in 2026. In addition to his Players Championship win, he tied for third at both the Masters Championship and the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
As he eyes his first major championship victory with the PGA Championship looming at Aronimink Golf Club near Philadelphia, Young is riding high. He finished second at The Open Championship in 2022, marking two of his seven career top-10 major finishes. He kicked off Sunday at the 2026 Masters as one of the favorites but faltered on the final nine holes.
This comes after Young displayed his true colors when a controversial ruling was made during the final round.
