Phillies' Alec Bohm Takes Legal Action Against Parents, Claims They Misappropriated His Funds

Mar 27 2026

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm has taken a bold step by filing a lawsuit against his parents, Daniel and Lisa Bohm, alleging they mismanaged his finances and diverted funds from accounts they controlled for personal use.

The legal action, lodged in a Philadelphia court on Wednesday, accuses the couple of “siphoning” money from accounts linked to their son, claiming they converted “a sizable amount” of his assets for their own benefit. The suit also highlights ongoing disputes regarding access and control over multiple financial accounts associated with Bohm.

According to the lawsuit, Daniel and Lisa Bohm have managed several financial accounts tied to their son since 2019. The filing asserts that the parents assigned themselves a 10% stake for managing these accounts, despite Bohm being identified as the “true” owner of the LLC assets.

These accounts were reportedly utilized for various investments, including securities and real estate. The lawsuit further alleges that funds from The Alec Bohm Foundation were improperly used to cover the parents’ personal expenses.

In a troubling twist, the suit claims that the parents attempted to “freeze” Bohm out of four accounts entirely.

The conflict intensified in January when Bohm sought account statements, login credentials, and details regarding his holdings. Instead of complying with his requests, his parents allegedly hired legal representation, as stated in the lawsuit.

Additionally, the filing reveals that Daniel and Lisa Bohm later claimed they had been billing their son $50 per hour for managing his financial affairs.

In response to the allegations, the Bohms are defending their actions. Their attorney, Robert Eckard, issued a statement asserting that the couple has always acted in their son’s best interests. “Mr. and Mrs. Bohm love their son very much and have always acted in his best interests, both personally and professionally,” Eckard stated.

The parents contend that Bohm had full access to the accounts in question and assert they used their personal credit cards to cover expenses on his behalf.

Previously, Daniel and Lisa Bohm owned a title insurance business, according to Nebraska Public Media. Currently, they are living in an RV and traveling.

After the 2026 season opener, Bohm was approached about the lawsuit but opted not to comment. “I’m not going to address any personal matters right now,” he stated.

Despite the ongoing legal dispute, both Daniel and Lisa Bohm remain listed as directors of The Alec Bohm Foundation alongside their son.

The lawsuit seeks at least $3 million in damages and demands a transfer of control over the contested accounts, along with the appointment of an independent accountant to oversee all transactions.

The financial implications are substantial. Drafted No. 3 overall in the 2018 MLB Draft, Bohm signed a $5.85 million bonus. His career earnings are estimated at approximately $19.6 million, with $10.2 million due in 2026.

As of now, there is no resolution to this case, and the dispute continues. Lawsuits involving professional athletes and family members managing finances have garnered public interest before; however, each situation carries its own unique emotional weight. For Bohm, this legal battle unfolds alongside his commitments on the field—a reality he acknowledged by choosing not to discuss it publicly.
