Rob Reiner's Final TV Role: A Savage Attack on 'Sociopath' Trump

Jul 05 2026

Rob Reiner took a final shot at Donald Trump, labeling a Trump-like figure a sociopath in a newly released HBO sketch.

The late filmmaker and actor appears in the second episode of Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness, which dropped on July 3 during the Fourth of July weekend.

Reiner, famed for directing classics like The Princess Bride and When Harry Met Sally, portrays George Washington in this sketch. The role was kept under wraps until the episode aired. This revelation comes amid buzz surrounding Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding details.

Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were killed in December 2025. Their son, Nick Reiner, faces two counts of murder and has pleaded not guilty.

In the sketch directed by Jeff Schaffer, Reiner’s Washington declares he will not seek a third term and supports legislation to prevent any future president from extending their power beyond two terms. Larry David presses him on the consequences if a future president disregards these rules.

“Well, what if there’s some a--hole in office, some narcissistic p---k who doesn’t follow the Constitution?” David challenges.

Reiner’s Washington responds with a fierce warning about a president who refuses to accept electoral defeat. He describes such an individual as a “sociopath” and an “insecure, lying asshole who would even cheat at golf.”

This tirade seems to target Trump, who has persistently claimed the 2020 election was “rigged,” alongside his notorious golf connections. The sketch also features Jimmy Kimmel and alludes to Trump’s ties with Jeffrey Epstein before escalating into chaos.

As tensions rise, Reiner’s Washington delivers the grim conclusion: “We’re f----d.” The episode concludes with an in memoriam card honoring Reiner.

Schaffer revealed that the sketch was filmed in November, shortly before Reiner’s death. He shaved his beard for the role to better resemble Washington.

Following Reiner's death, Trump faced backlash for a social media post where he labeled the director “very bad for our country” and accused him of suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” Schaffer remarked that Reiner’s final political jab provided him the “last laugh.”

“It’s coming out on Fourth of July weekend, and if it in any way spoils a sad octogenarian’s weekend, then oh well!” Schaffer stated. He acknowledged Reiner’s death as “incredibly sad” and emphasized the careful consideration behind the release timing of the cameo.

Nick Reiner remains incarcerated while awaiting trial. His next preliminary hearing is set for September. He claims entitlement to over $1 million in inheritance and intends to use those funds to hire a high-powered attorney.
