Trump's UFC White House Fumble: Claims Wrong Network in Cringe-Worthy Gaffe

Jul 03 2026

Donald Trump flubbed a major detail while addressing the media, mistakenly claiming his UFC event aired on the wrong network.

Last month, Trump hosted UFC Freedom 250 on the South Lawn of the White House to mark his 80th birthday. The event faced significant backlash, particularly after a fighter made offensive remarks about Michelle Obama.

Trump and UFC chief Dana White handpicked the fight card, drawing criticism for allegedly exploiting 9/11 commemorations for personal gain.

The event reportedly attracted a massive global audience, with viewership numbers speculated to exceed 34 million. Fans in the U.S. tuned into Paramount+ after it replaced ESPN as UFC's streaming partner.

On Truth Social, Trump boasted about the event's success, stating, “The UFC at the White House last night was incredible. The weather was scheduled to be horrendous, and it turned out to be PERFECT. The White House has never looked more beautiful. The setting was unsurpassed!”

However, during his speech at the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, Trump confused the broadcasting network.

“This was a big event. This was one of the highest-rated fights in history,” Trump declared. "It was broadcast on CBS, a network, and it got among the highest ratings any fight has ever gotten."

He continued, “It was on CBS, national, on a Sunday night, not a Saturday night. Saturday nights are called ‘Death Valley’ for television. I know a lot about ratings, but Sunday night’s very good.”

While Trump may have mixed up details, CBS is owned by Paramount and has aired preliminary fights leading up to main events this year. However, CBS had no role in broadcasting the White House card.

Despite the event's apparent success, Dana White indicated that it won't become a regular occurrence. "It was an amazing experience; this was a one-of-one," he stated. "It will never happen again."

White added, "Even for the people that thought this was going to be some big political statement or something, this wasn’t. This was Americans, all Americans celebrating the birthday. For people who tuned in for the first time because it was at the White House, hopefully they liked the sport. They liked some of the guys’ stories."
