Russell Brand Confesses to Megyn Kelly: 'I Had Relations with a 16-Year-Old at 30'

Apr 23 2026

During a recent podcast episode, comedian Russell Brand openly acknowledged his past involvement with a 16-year-old while he was 30, labeling the encounter as “exploitative” yet asserting it was not against the law.

Brand is currently facing serious allegations of rape and sexual assault from multiple women, charges he firmly denies. A documentary released in 2023 highlighted claims that he had targeted a school-aged girl, who now as an adult, accuses him of sexual assault, referring to her past self as “the child.”

Megyn Kelly expressed her anger over the allegations but maintained an open mind regarding the possibility that Brand might be unjustly treated.

“I did sleep with a 16-year-old when I was 30,” Brand stated, reflecting on his past. “At that age, I was a very different person. Immature, really.”

He elaborated, “Engaging in consensual sex with various partners, especially when there’s a significant power imbalance—like being a famous man capable of attracting women—can be seen as exploitative.”

Brand admitted, “I recognize that my past sexual behavior was selfish. I didn’t give enough thought—barely any, honestly—to how my actions impacted others.”

In the U.K., the age of consent is generally set at 16, with certain exceptions, similar to laws in various U.S. states.

Following the emergence of these allegations, Brand underwent baptism in 2024 and has shifted towards right-wing political views, recently addressing a Turning Point USA event in December.

His marriage to pop star Katy Perry concluded in 2012, and he has been married to Laura Gallacher since 2017.
