SHOCKING: ICE Agents Unleash Pepper Spray on Senator Amid Protest
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents unleashed pepper-spray balls on a crowd of protesters outside Delaney Hall, injuring Senator Andy Kim (D-N.J.) during a chaotic confrontation.
Kim attempted to negotiate with officers to reduce their presence and allow immigration advocates to inspect vehicles leaving the facility, but federal agents escalated the situation by pushing protesters back and firing pepper-spray balls into the crowd.
Footage surfaced showing Kim receiving treatment for the irritant, highlighting the violent clash. A spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security reported that around 125 individuals had formed a human chain, blocking all entries and exits in protest of alleged inhumane conditions and hunger strikes.
Despite claims from the department that no one was directly struck by the pepper-spray balls, Kim stated he was hit in the hand before inhaling the chemical irritant, which caused him breathing difficulties.
“I ran up and put myself between the ICE officers and the crowd, and that’s when they started to shoot at us with the pepper balls,” Kim recounted, emphasizing that his injury was secondary to the safety of the protesters.

Homeland Security assistant secretary Lauren Bis dismissed allegations of hunger strikes and poor conditions inside Delaney Hall, asserting that “sanctuary politicians” like Kim should be grateful to ICE for detaining dangerous criminals.
Kim reached out to Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, who expressed confusion over ICE's negative portrayal, seeking access to Delaney Hall. He reported speaking with numerous detainees about their dire conditions.
“We talked with dozens, if not 100 or more of the detainees,” Kim stated, detailing complaints about inadequate food and lack of medical care. He highlighted a pregnant woman not receiving necessary care and an 18-year-old high school senior trapped in the facility.
Mullin echoed Bis's claims of no hunger strikes or substandard conditions at Delaney Hall, criticizing Democratic lawmakers for their accusations against ICE. Kim reiterated his conversations with detainees engaged in hunger strikes.
“It’s sad, it’s a sad day,” he concluded.
